Child Find Procedures

Gavin School District 37 is committed to the belief that all children are entitled to a free and appropriate public education. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Gavin School District 37 is responsible for actively seeking out, locating, and identifying all children residing within district boundaries who may be eligible for special education and related services. This mandate applies to all children residing within Gavin 37 boundaries, including:

  • Children enrolled in Gavin 37 public schools.
  • Children attending parentally-placed private schools located within the district.
  • Homeschooled students.
  • Children who are highly mobile, such as migrant or homeless youth.
  • Children suspected of having a disability even though they are advancing from grade to grade.

Birth to 3

Gavin School District 37 ensures early identification through the Lake County Health Department Child & Family Connections.  If your child is younger than 2 years 9 months and showing delays, contact Child & Family Connections (847-377-8931). Early intervention is a system of services that helps babies and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities.

Gavin School District 37 coordinates closely with Child & Family Connections Early Intervention Program (EI). For children receiving EI services, Gavin School District 37 participates in transition planning to ensure supports are identified, and if applicable, implemented by the child’s third birthday.
