About Mr. Jurgaitis
I grew up in Ingleside, Illinois, and graduated from Grant Community High School. After attending the College of Lake County, I transferred to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in European History.
My connection to Gavin began as a substitute teacher while completing my teacher certification at North Park University in Chicago. I student-taught at Gavin South and was hired in 2002 as a sixth-grade social studies teacher. I later taught eighth-grade social studies for seven years. Over my twelve years in the classroom, I also served as athletic director, coached boys’ basketball and volleyball, mentored new teachers, and helped organize student trips to Washington, D.C., England, and Japan.
I earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University in 2012. Two years later, I became assistant principal at Gavin South, and in 2015, I was named principal.
As a leader, I believe schools should be welcoming, student-centered communities where every child feels known, supported, and challenged. I value strong relationships with families and staff, and I believe that collaboration, consistency, and high expectations create the conditions where all students can thrive. My goal is to ensure that every student leaves Gavin South not only academically prepared, but also confident, responsible, and ready to contribute positively to their community.
It has been an honor to serve the Gavin community throughout my career, and I look forward to continuing that partnership in the years ahead.
