• WHAT DO I DO IF MY CHILD WAKES UP SICK? DO OTHER SIBLINGS HAVE TO STAY HOME?

Step 1: Check to see if they have any of the symptoms on this list (provided by IDPH).

Step 2: Call the school nurse.

Step 3: Do not send your child to school. Wait for the school nurse/administration to reach out to you to follow up on your case. Per the current exclusion guidance, students must be excluded from school until a negative COVID test result or alternative diagnosis is received.

Step 4: You will be encouraged to get a COVID test. We have tests available (BinaxNow or Shield).

FAMILIES WITH MULTIPLE CHILDREN IN THE DISTRICT

If one of your children is symptomatic, your other children may attend school UNLESS any of your children are positive for COVID-19.  If positive, all unvaccinated children must be excluded from school for a period of 10 calendar days (test to stay would not apply).

If there are siblings that are vaccinated, those student(s) would be able to attend school if they are asymptomatic. Any student who is symptomatic must remain home regardless of their vaccination status.

HOW LONG WILL MY CHILD HAVE TO BE EXCLUDED FROM SCHOOL?

There are a number of scenarios that are linked here as part of the Illinois Department of Public Health’s school exclusion guidance. Once you get in touch with your building nurse or administrator about your child’s particular situation and they have received guidance from the Lake County Health Department, they will help guide you through the scenarios that may apply.

IMPORTANT: Local health departments are the final authority on identifying close contacts. Quarantine Procedures Local health departments will make the final determination on who is to be quarantined and for how long. They also may determine that a close contact is not a candidate for modified quarantine or the Test to Stay protocol due to a high-risk exposure (e.g., sustained close contact without masking).
