  • About Ms. Scofield

Welcome to Gavin Central! My name is Niki Scofield, and I am the Principal of this incredible building. I love coming to school each day, and enjoy watching the students learn and grow. We are such a unique district, and I feel honored to be a part of it.

Teaching has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a young child, my favorite thing to play was “school”, and as you can only imagine, I was always the teacher. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work in education, and help children know they are loved, appreciated, and the future of our world.

My teaching career began shortly after I graduated from National-Louis University in 2002, with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I worked for 2 years at Ramona School in Wilmette, Illinois, as a teacher’s assistant in an Early Childhood classroom, and then in a Life Skills classroom. After that, I began teaching in my own classroom in Vernon Hills, Illinois. There I taught Second Grade for several years, before switching to Fourth Grade for more experience. I decided it was time for another change, and taught First Grade in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. While teaching First Grade, I decided to pursue my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, and graduated from the American College of Education in 2010. In an effort to broaden my horizons, I decided to change assignments and taught Sixth Grade Language Arts and Social Studies. When I was offered the opportunity to become the district’s Instructional Learning Coach, I was beyond excited. It was the perfect opportunity for me to apply my vast experiences in education, and engage and lead teachers in new experiences.

After two years as an Instructional Learning Coach, I decided it was time to jump into an even larger leadership role. Beginning my administrative journey here at Gavin has been an incredible experience. The staff, students, and parents are all wonderful, and I feel like I have found my second family. I am blessed beyond words to be living my dream, and sharing my love of teaching and learning with the Gavin family. I am looking forward to a school year filled with beautiful memories to cherish for years to come.
